LCD DISPLAY: The ThinkPad 770ED system comes with a 358.1mm (14.1-inch) (measured diagonally) TFT display with 1024 x 768 resolution. The TFT display provides superb brightness and excellent viewing capability and helps lessen the glare indoors.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPOINT WITH ENHANCED FEATURES: The keyboard has the familiar layout of a ThinkPad notebook with a function key capability that allows you to quickly access system functions, such as power management control. There is a larger palm-rest area. The TrackPoint pointing device with enhanced features incorporates the new "Press-to- Select" and "Release-to-Select" function of the TrackPoint.

Just tap the TrackPoint itself to speed icon launches and reduce keystrokes. The new programmable center button enables fast scrolling of Web sites and documents or fast panning across wide spreadsheets. Or, switch to the INNOVATIVE MAGNIFYING GLASS feature to enlarge screen views in any application.

PROCESSOR: The system has a 266MHz Pentium II Mobile processor, 512KB of L2 cache, providing exceptional performance.

MEMORY: The ThinkPad 770ED systems are designed to use 144-pin, 64-bit SDRAM SO DIMM, 3 V, non-parity memory. 64 MB of new, fast SDRAM SO DIMM system memory (RAM) is standard (32 MB on the system board and 32 MB in one of the expansion slots).

The ThinkPad 770ED is also designed to recognize up to 288 MB of addressable memory. (Current available memory options allow memory expansion up to 160 MB using two 64MB SDRAM SO DIMMs in the two user accessible slots for memory expansion.) One of these slots is currently occupied with a 32 MB SDRAM that provides the standard 64 MB of system memory. This 32 MB SDRAM must be removed and replaced with a 64 MB SDRAM to achieve the 160 MB maximum.

Memory expansion beyond 160 MB will depend on the availability of memory options larger than 64 MB SDRAM SO DIMMs that meet IBM ThinkPad 770 specifications. This availability cannot be guaranteed.

PCMCIA: The Type III slot accommodates either two Type I, two Type II, or one Type III PC card. The slot supports the CardBus adapters(6) PC card and the ZV (Zoomed Video) adapter.
(6) currently available in DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95.

STORAGE: The customer-removable, customer-installable standard hard drive holds up to 8.1 GB of data. The 1.44 MB diskette drive (FDD) comes standard. The FDD can either be plugged directly into the UltraBay II, or used externally with the cable supplied with the system. It comes in its own enclosure.

THINKPAD ULTRABAY II: The ThinkPad UltraBay II, also standard with the system, is an intelligent bay that switches its pinout signals to allow the installation of standard and optional features in what would normally be just the FDD bay.
UltraBay II accommodates:
o Second Li-Ion battery
o Second HDD
o An FDD or CD-ROM or a DVD drive or ZIP drive
o The 760 family hard disk drive options if the ThinkPad 770 Second HDD adapter option is used

The installation of a second hard drive in the UltraBay II requires the ThinkPad 770 Second HDD Adapter optional feature.

MAGNIFICENT MOBILE MULTIMEDIA: Consider the ThinkPad 770ED if you need more advanced and integrated multimedia capability -- 3D audio and video combined.
o Stereo speakers and Theater Sound (MIDI Wave Table Audio).
o Integrated Dolby(R) Digital audio provides support for up to five discreet channels. And, when you add your own amplifier and speakers, you can enjoy the richness of Dolby(R) sound.
o The 770ED system supports Total Image Video with MPEG-1, full MPEG-2, and MPEG-2 HHR video decoding for significantly improved video performance.

Exploit amazing 3D graphics, images, video, and sound capabilities as you create dazzling presentations or surf the Internet using this powerful array of advanced audio and video capabilities:
o Giant 14.1-inch active matrix display
o Pentium II processor technology
o Maximum flexibility with standard DVD drive
o High-quality speakers and standard SRS 3D audio and Sound Blaster Pro audio applications
o Software-supported MPEG-1 playback
o Hardware-supported full MPEG-2 playback
o Video in (video capture) and playback over TV (video out)
o Dolby(R) Digital support for lively theater-like sound via the integrated DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter

AUDIO: The audio capability on the system board and the integrated microphone allow voice annotation and audio capability. The system is equipped with audio in/out jacks for stereo speakers, headphone, or external microphone. A separate dial volume control is located to the side of the keyboard on the system.

VIDEO: The new ThinkPad 770ED system has integrated 3D graphics capability, providing exceptional video performance and use with 3D Web sites, business applications, and 3D video games. It has 4 MB of video RAM.

The ThinkPad 770ED also has enhanced video that supports video-in and video-out (NTSC/PAL), video capture, hardware video acceleration, scaling, and color space conversion.

ROBUST SYSTEM MANAGEABILITY: The ThinkPad 770ED complies with the industry standard Desktop Management Interface (DMI 2.0) and Wake on LAN support via the optional SelectaDock III. Thermal monitoring, early detection of a hard drive failure, local or remote asset management and asset security via passwords and locks are also supported. The ThinkPad 770ED system is compliant with the WfM (Wired for Management) base line requirements for mobile systems.

ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS PROCESSOR: Features and benefits include:
o Programmable high-speed modem.
o Modem speeds of up to 56 Kbps for data are currently supported. The integrated modem also supports x2 protocol with modem technology capable of receiving data at up to 56 Kbps from an x2-compatible service provider, and sending data at up to 33.6Kbps.
o Up to 14.4 Kbps for fax and other telephony functions.
o Full-featured telephone(7)
- Answering machine
- Hands-free, full-duplex speakerphone
- Universal internal DAA that allows world-wide connection without the need to acquire country specific DAAs and unique dongles for connection. Standard country telephone jack connections can be used.
- VideoPhone receive function is standard with two-way data sharing and two-way audio. An Intel Video Phone Create and Share Kit for full send video capabilities. Must be launched from RingCentral telephony application.
(7) Subject to country PTT homologation approval.

INFRARED: The systems have fast (up to 4.0Mbps) IR transceivers in front and back for wireless file and data transfer and printing. The ThinkPad 770ED is designed for compliance with the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) IR data link specification Version 1.1 (up to 4.0 Mbps).

OTHER FEATURES: The ThinkPad 770ED systems have the full complement of ports (enhanced parallel, serial, USB port, and external display). The FDD external attachment port is standard on all 770ED models. In addition, a 240-pin connector supports the following:

THINKPAD DOCKING SOLUTIONS
o IBM SelectaBase 770
o IBM SelectaDock I
o IBM SelectaDock II
o IBM SelectaDock III
