Temperature specifications Heat dissipation: 410 Btu/hr maximum Heat emissions: 120 watts maximum Power AC Adapter AC adapter: This ac-to-dc converter supplies the necessary power to the computer. The ac adapter also charges the battery pack when it is installed in the computer. Universal AC adapter (120 W): Input is 100/240 V ac, 1.5 A, 50/60 Hz Output is 16 V dc, 7.5 Battery The battery pack is an internal power source to the computer when the ac adapter is not available. The battery pack is rechargeable and is charged using the ac adapter with the system. You can determine how much battery power remains by using the fuel- gauge ThinkPad utility program, which displays the percent charge remaining. A different Li-Ion battery pack fits into the Ultrabay Slim so that two batteries can be installed to increase battery operating time. A six or twelve cell Li-Ion battery or an eight cell NiMH battery pack is shipped with the system. Battery pack: Li-Ion 6 cell: 10.8 V, 4.4 AH 12 cell: 10.8 V, 8.8 AH Approximate operation and charging time Charging State of operation 6 cell Li-Ion 12 cell Li-Ion Power off/suspend charging 3.0 hours 4.5 hours Charging during operation 3.0-7.0 hours 4.5-12 hours Hours of operation Battery type Celeron D Mobile Pentium 4 6 cell Li-Ion battery 0.5 hours 1.0 hour 12 cell Li-Ion battery 1.0 hours 2.0 hour Notes: (*1) Recharge time also varies. (*2) These model numbers achieved eTesting Labs, Inc.'s BatteryMark 4.0.1 or the Ziff Davis Media Inc.'s Business Winstone 2002 BatteryMarkTM Version 1.0 Battery Rundown Time of at least the times shown above. This test was performed without independent verification by VeriTest testing division of Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. Security System A locking device in the security slot provides physical security. Password A Power-on password (POP) protects the system from unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt appears: Each time the system is turned on When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode A Supervisor Password provides a higher level of security than the POP. The Supervisor Password protects the system functions from being used by unauthorized users, and protects the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification. The Supervisor Password prompt appears: When the BIOS setup screen is accessed. A HD Password (HDP) protects HD data from unauthorized users. Once HDP is set, data on the HD cannot be accessed without the correct HDP. Because the HDP is stored in the HD, the data remains protected even if the HD is removed to another system. The HDP password prompt appears: Each time the system is turned on Software Operating system The following operating systems are supported on the ThinkPad G40 systems: Windows XP Professional Windows XP Home Edition Windows 2000 Professional Note: Previous versions of these operating systems are not supported. Storage Optical drive One of the following optical devices may be installed in your ThinkPad system: 24x/10x/24x/8x CDRW/DVD 8x DVD 24x CD-ROM 24x-10x-24x/8x max CD-RW/DVD combination drive ThinkPad Multi-Burner Bootable The optical drive bay is fixed, it cannot be removed or swapped with another device. Floppy drive Included with somel models as a fixed drive. hard drive (HD) features Supported HD thickness: 9.5mm for all systems Standard 30GB, 40GB, 80GB HD sizes.
