This is the 24rf08 Reader device, this is made for recovering passwords on IBM Laptop computers. This device support chip that have the ATMEL 24RF08 EEPROM which are on the IBM Laptop computers. The ATMEL 24RF08 EEPROM chip is main used to for the BIOS which store the OEM like serial numbers, UUID, and etc, but it also encrypt the password for the Supervisor (SVP) password or the Super User password. The ATMEL 24RF08 Chip can not be reset by disconnecting the BIOS battery or shorting out any wires or pin legs. With the 24RF08 Reader device you have no need to unsolder the EEPROM . Just solder 3 wires onto the EEPROM the SDA, SCL and GND pins of the EEPROM. The following ThinkPad models are based on 24RF08 EEPROM and must be accessed only with 24RF08 Reader Device: IBM ThinkPad 240, 240X, 390E, 390X, 570, 570E, 600e, 600X, 770Z, A20m, A21e, A21m, a22m, A30, A30p, A31, A31p, G40, G41, R30, R31, R32, R40, R51, Transnote, T20, T21, T22, T23, T30, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, X20, X21, X22, X23, X24, X30, X31, X40, X41.

3/26/08: New Models of ThinkPad’s are now support by the 24RF08 Reader T61, X61, and R61. I have not tested these models yet using the 24RF08 Reader but from the information Allservice has posted it should work. Here goes there posting:  http://www.allservice.ro/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3521#3521 they also show where the EEPROM is located at.

The 24RF08 Reader can do the read-write operation to the IBM Laptop motherboard. The Reader should support all of the 24rf08BT, 24rf08CT, 24rf08CM ATMEL Chips. The ATMEL 24RF08 chip is widespread in the IBM R series, T series, X series, and on the G series notebook motherboard.

24RF08 Reader

(This is the 24rf08 chip adapter ) To used this you could unsolder the 24RF08 from the Motherboard and then solder it on to the 24RF08 Chip Adapter. Then connect it to the JP2 of the 24RF08 Reader Programmer, connect the power box to the Reader.

(Battery box uses 3 AA battery power supply)

EEpromReader3

(This is the Data Line which you solder on to the EEPROM) With the Data Line there is no need to unsolder the 24RF08 EEPROM from the motherboard, just solder the 3 wires to SDA, SCL and GND pins of the eeprom. These wires will be connected later to the JP1 of 24RF08 Reader.
